A new kind of roadblock (Week 10 of Student teaching)

 When I say this week did not go as planned I really mean this week did. not go as planned...

However the week started off like a normal week. On Monday, I gave the students time to work on their posters. During second period, we worked on getting the plant sale signs ready. 



In fourth period, I started something new! I started working on Common shop tools with them. I was kind of hesitant on how this was going to go because tools can be quite boring but it actually went quite well. 

Tuesday is when things started to not go as planned. I originally planned on going to districts with Mr. Sturgis and our students but we were informed that only one advisor was approved to attend. So I used the time to take the last Praxis I needed to graduate. After taking the test, I got my second dose of the COVID vaccine. 

I was hoping not to have a reaction to the shot but unfortunately that wasn't possible. In fact, I actually had a quite severe reaction. I had a fever Wednesday and Thursday along with dizziness and nausea. Which meant I could not go to school. 

By Friday my fever had broken but I still wasn't 100% so it was kind of a rough day. We had lots of preparation to do for the plant sale so we spent most of the day outside. By the end of the day I was pretty wiped out but it felt really good to be back at school!

 The week started off strong with my final observation (the one that counts). I had prepped and prepped for this but things really didn't go to plan.  Unfortunately, I had a lot of behavior problems with my students that took away from the lesson.  However it was an exciting day for my first period because we were finally starting poster presentation! Everyone was back from quarantine and I had a full class. Unfortunately these did not go great. I should have made the expectations much higher because they didn't take the presentation part as serious as I would of liked them to.  Second period went a little bit better but still not the best. My interest approach took too long because the kids were seated too far apart to pass bags to each other. I think this activity will work better in non-covid times.  Fourth period has really become my favorite class and things went pretty well in this class. Roadblocks and Show Pigs (Week 4 Student teaching)

State Fair week was all about being flexible. Really this whole experience so far has been all about being flexible and constantly making adjustments.  The week started off with a pipe burst by the plant nursery that led to the strawberry field being flooded. This caused us to take some class time to try and fix the problem which was fine by me. My plans for the week included working on Punnett Squares in second period and introducing FNGLA to first period. Neither which were time sensitive so the lessons could easily be moved to later in the week.  The irrigation problem seemed to be more complex than we thought and at that point we knew we needed to get the school district to fix it. There was a pipe under the ground that had a crack in it and had been slowly leaking for a while along with a solenoid valve that needed to be replaced.
